About us

Established in 2015, the Levantine Greek Association is a secular ethnocultural association founded in Sweden. A registered European NGO that aims to increase public awareness of Levantine Rum ethnic identity, culture, and history. We believe in four main pillars: education, cultural preservation, community membership, and philanthropy, through developing and supporting educational initiatives, social events, and community advocacy.

The LGA is a non-religious association. We are neither part of any Church establishment nor concern ourselves with theological matters. Membership is open to all Levantine Greeks, whether Rum Orthodox, Rum Catholic, or any other Christian sect or Muslim that identifies as an ethnic Greek. Nevertheless, the Association does support Byzantine-Rite Chalcedonian Christianity and its social and moral values.

The LGA is a non-political association. We do not support any particular political party or ideological doctrine. We are not Separatists, we do not seek statehood, and we are proud citizens of the countries we reside in. We do, however, believe in the political empowerment of our community members and ensuring equal political representation in our ancestral homelands.

Levantine Rum, or Levantine Greeks, are an ethnoreligious people native to the Levant and descended from the region’s formerly Greek-speaking Chalcedonian Christians. The majority are members of either the Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch, the Greek Orthodox Church of Jerusalem, or the Melkite-Greek Catholic Church.
